William Joseph “Bill” Peters, 81, of Massillon, was received into the Church Triumphant Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2016, following a period of declining health. Born in Massillon, April 28, 1935, a son to the late Edward J. and Catherine M. (Grimm) Peters, Bill graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1954. A devoted husband, loving father and mischievous grandpa, Bill’s life was one of service: to his country, to his family and to the faith community of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. He served honorably in the US Naval Service and Naval Reserve; gave 35 years of faithful service to The Timken Company before his retirement and invested his time and talent in faith-based initiatives including Men’s Cursillo, Christ Renews the Parish and Marriage Encounter for and with St. Barbara’s Church.
Predeceased by his parents and two sisters; Bill is survived by his beloved wife, partner and best friend of nearly 55 years, Agnes C. (Painter) Peters – they were married September 30, 1961; four children and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be concelebrated with Fr. Brian Cline and Fr. Thomas Cebula at St. Barbara’s Church on Friday morning, September 16, at 10:00. The family will receive guests for an hour before Mass, from 9-10:00 a.m. in the narthex of the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Crossroads Hospice, especially to Brek and Scott, for their loving care. They have further suggested memorial contributions made in care of Faith In Action of Western Stark County, Inc., 412 Lincoln Way East, Massillon, Ohio 44646.
