Viola Fisher Obituary

Viola M. Fisher, 103, of Jackson Township, passed away gently, in the comfort of her home, Wednesday afternoon, September 11, 2024.  Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, March 25, 1921, to the late James H. and Esther V. (Penfield) Amon, the family moved to Massillon in 1922.  Viola graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1939, and received her BS degree in education from Malone University.  She was an elementary school teacher and retired from Amherst Elementary in the Jackson Local District in July 1982.

She enjoyed reading, golf, gardening, playing cards, and loved flowers.  She was a skilled craftswoman and donated dozens of crocheted lap robes to the Massillon Senior Center and the SAM (Serving Area Military) Center in Massillon.  She was involved in Girl Scouting much of her life and had been a Girl Scout leader for a troop at First United Methodist Church.  Viola was an active, life-member (101 years) of First United Methodist Church in Massillon.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olen F. Fisher; her partner, Walter Krebs; and her sister, Eleanor Amon Shull; Viola is survived by her daughter, Donna (Floyd) Sense, of North Carolina, and son, James Fisher, of Jackson Township.  Also surviving are a grandson, and granddaughters, Wendy Sense (Bill Moss, deceased) and Lisa (Rick) Christensen, all of North Carolina; as well as two great-grandchildren; several nieces, and a nephew.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Dr. David Oliver, pastor of First United Methodist Church will officiate, and a private burial will follow.  The family will receive condolences for one hour prior to the services, from 1:00-2:00 Tuesday afternoon in the funeral home.

Viola had requested no additional flowers.  Please consider instead, a memorial donation to either First United Methodist Church – 301 Lincoln Way East, Massillon, Ohio 44646, or to your own favorite charity.
