Thomas Hilbert Obituary

Our husband and father, Tom Hilbert, passed away under the lights Friday night, November 2nd, 2018 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.  He was there doing what he loved, watching the Massillon Tigers play football.

Thomas Harry Hilbert was born November 29, 1937, in Massillon, Ohio, to Harry and Mary Hilbert and was a lifelong Massillon proud resident. He started following all Ohio sports in his youth and was a member of water ski teams at Myers and Portage Lakes.  He served four years in the Army and was employed for over thirty years as a service manager for local car dealerships.

His primary focus was his family.  He passed that focus along to his children, teaching them that family comes first, that life is about responsibility, honesty, and loyalty, and that a sense of humor enhances good times and brings you through bad times.  He was especially happy and proud to watch his sons play football and his daughter cheerlead, and to follow his grandkids in their sports.  He had season tickets in Section 3 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium for over 50 years.

His home was open to everyone.  All of our friends spent time there while we were growing up and Dad was always happy to welcome anyone.  He was the social director and centerpiece of events for family and friends and never met a stranger.

Dad loved all living things.  The word “stray” was not in his vocabulary.  If any animals appeared to be alone and struggling, he immediately took them in.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Carolyn “Corny” and Patty.  Left to mourn his loss are his devoted wife, Carol, with whom he shared his love for 57 years, and his children Kim, Scott, Ty, and Danny.  Also left are his grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws and many other relatives and friends.

Dad, we were so fortunate and blessed to have your love and example and we will continue to carry those in our hearts every day.

The family will receive condolences and share remembrances celebrating Tom’s life on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Please wear your orange and black to support the team and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Stark County Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
