Susan M. Sturm, 67, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her family, early Saturday morning, June 10, 2023, having fought courageously against the effects of a relentless illness for the past eleven months. Born in Massillon, April 23, 1956, a daughter to Herbert W. and the late Florence A. (Nussbaumer) Ashbridge, Susie graduated from Canton Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1974. She had worked as an escrow processor for Dollar Bank for more than thirty years and was a life member of St. Barbara/Divine Mercy Parish. Like her mother before her, Susie was dedicated to her family. A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom and grandma – with an affectionate smile and a playful sense of humor, she placed her husband, her children, and especially her grandchildren, at the center of her life. She found joy in many things and renewed her energy in different ways – cooking and baking for everyday meals and special occasions like birthdays and holidays; choosing and planting flowers around her home; the excitement of playing BINGO, and any chance to do some shopping always made her smile. But nothing could brighten her day more than a hug and a kiss from her grandchildren!
Predeceased by her mother; her sister, Barbara Ashbridge Mehling, and a nephew, Gus Mehling; Susan is survived by her husband, Mark D. Sturm, of the home; daughter, Amanda (Nick) Leemaster, of Canal Fulton, and son, Alex (Brianna) Sturm, of Canton; grandchildren, Lucas and Ivy Leemaster and Nolan Sturm; her father, Herbert Ashbridge, of Massillon; brother-in-law, Michael Mehling, of Columbus and a several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place in accordance with Susan’s wishes. Family and friends will join with Fr. Tom Bishop to celebrate a Memorial Mass at St. Barbara’s Church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023. A private burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the start of Mass, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the narthex of the church.
