Steven B. Lamp, Sr., 83, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning,
April 27, 2024. Born December 5, 1940, in Macfarlan, West Virginia, a son to the late
Carlis and Pauline Lamp, Steve graduated from Massillon Washington High School with
the Class of 1958. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving
honorably from 1959 until 1963. He returned to Massillon and remained an area resident
throughout his adulthood.
Born into a musical family, Steve was a gifted musician. Mastering the accordion at an
early age, he traveled with his mother and played to entertain at nursing homes. He also
played piano, organ, and guitar.
In his professional life, he had worked as a design engineer for several area firms with ties
to the aerospace industry, He retired from PCC Airfoils in Minerva, where he was a senior
tool design engineer.
Even in his retirement Steve liked to keep busy. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking,
tending his garden and restoring antique cars – and music. There were special times, more
recently, when odd jobs and hobbies got set aside and he and his wife, Barbara, did what
you’re supposed to do when you retire: refocus simply, only, on one another and the life
they had made together.
Predeceased by his parents; Steve is survived by his wife and best friend, Barbara Jean
(Eder) Lamp, of the home; their daughter, Christy J. Mendenhall, of Massillon, and son

and Steven B. Lamp III; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Blake Newell. Also
surviving are his brother, Randolph “Harvey” (Shirley Ann) Lamp, of Massillon; niece,
