Steve L. Ramey, 70, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home and in the company of his family, Tuesday evening, April 27, 2021. Born in Branchland, West Virginia, June 17, 1950, a son to the late Edmond and Norma (Carter) Ramey, Steve retired from the Timken Company Steel Division after more than forty years of faithful service. He was never one to shy away from hard work. But when the work was done and it was time to relax, there was always an open invitation to “come out to the house.” His wife and family meant everything to him. He was a devoted husband and a loving and supportive dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle, and a loyal friend. When he wasn’t having fun finding new ways to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he took them for rides on the tractor. Known for his unique sense of humor, sometimes he made up silly songs and sang to them while he played his guitar. Other times the songs were sweet and sincere. He enjoyed yardwork and being outdoors, working with his hands. And if the weather didn’t cooperate, he’d tinker around in the garage or return to his latest woodworking project until the sun came out again.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Owen, Bobby and Eddie; granddaughter, Dawn Rae and great-grandchildren, Silas, Ember and an unnamed great-grandson, Baby Starn; Steve is survived by his wife, Paulette (Bennett) Ramey; daughter, Stephanie Tomczak, of Massillon and sons, Eric (Kelly) Ramey, of Navarre and Collin Bennett, of Canton; his grandchildren, Savannah, Sami, Zach, Tori, Johnathan, Brandon and Andrea; great-grandchildren, Sincere, Ryker, Audree, Addie, Archer and Easton; and his sisters, Violet Aranda and Cassie (Charles) Roy, both of Navarre. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins and several treasured friends also survive.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial and committal service open to all, will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at East Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. A more fitting celebration of his life, hosted by the family, will follow at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home. Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added to our on-line guestbook at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
