Stanley Owens Obituary

Stanley L. Owens, 82, of Lawrence Township, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, late Wednesday evening, July 3, 2024.  Born in Massillon, September 9, 1941, a son to the late Robert and Kathleen (Parrott) Owens, Stan graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1959.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served honorably until 1965.  His deployment cruises included time aboard the USS Rainier (AE-5), and the venerable USS Midway (CV-41).  In his professional career Stan worked as an independent contractor, assisting other firms and builders in bringing ideas to life as a draftsman and designer.  While still working full-time, he returned to the classroom as an on-line learner and completed his engineering degree.

A devoted husband and a loving and supportive dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Stan placed his wife and family at the center of his life.  He treasured each of them and together they created a lifetime of happy memories.  He also loved animals and often unashamedly preferred the company of his four-legged pals to the two-legged ones!  Stan was also a lifetime fan of the Massillon Tigers, the Buckeyes, and  Cleveland baseball.

Predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Erin; his sister, Joyce Weber, and brother, Mark Owens; Stan is survived by his wife, Rebecca L. “Becky” (Haas) Owens, of the home; daughter, Stacy (Jeff) Bishop, of Massillon; and grandchildren, Zachary (Jen) Bishop, Natalie Bishop, Amanda Ramey, Samantha (Seth) Kennard, and Kaytee Ramey.  Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas (Mary Helen) Owens, of Canal Fulton.

Honoring Stan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  The family will receive condolences and share memories on Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2024, from 3-5:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Stan and his daughter, Erin, will then both be entered into rest in a private service.

The family has suggested memorial contributions made to the Humane Society of Stark County or the Stark County Sheriff’s Office Dog Warden Division to ensure for the recovery, care, safe sheltering, and adoption of homeless or unwanted pets and promote responsible pet ownership.

Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Stan’s on-line guestbook.
