On Monday evening, November 25, 2024, Shirley M. Doll, while being cared for by her daughters, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home following a full and purposeful life. Born in Navarre, August 20, 1923, she had reached the age of 101. A daughter of the late Grover F. and Hazel M. (Watts) Oakleaf, Shirley and her sister, Jean, were raised by their father, and later, step-mother Jane Oakleaf. Shirley graduated from the former Navarre High School and trained as a commercial secretary at the former Massillon Secretarial College. She worked briefly in the office of Massillon Washed Gravel before becoming a full-time homemaker. A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma, Shirley placed her husband and family at the center of her life. She created a comfortable home filled with laughter and happy memories. A Christian woman of quiet faith, she enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting, and throughout her life she had a fondness for chocolate! Her memory will be a treasure to those who knew and loved her.
Predeceased by her parents and step-mother; her husband, Jay Doll; and her sister, Jean Oakleaf Stanford; Shirley is survived by her daughters, Judy Doll (Stephen Hottinger) of Vermilion, Holly (Charles) Radich, of North Canton, and Ginger Mirtallo (Dave Lee) ofColumbus. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family will mark Shirley’s passing with a private memorial ceremony and inurnment. They have suggested memorial contributions made to Aultman Hospice.
Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with the immediate arrangements. Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Shirley’s on-line guestbook.
