Shane R. Stantz, 51, of Navarre, passed away unexpectedly, of natural causes, Friday afternoon, July 21, 2023. Born in Massillon, February 24, 1972, a son to John R. and Susan D. (King) Stantz, Shane graduated from Fairless High School with the Class of 1990 and had been a Navarre resident his entire life. His work history had been one of honorable and dedicated service to the Navarre community. He invested nearly half of his adult life as a firefighter and EMT, beginning in August of 1991, through May of 2015, when he retired after serving from November of 2004, as Chief of the former Navarre Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his duties with the NVFD, he had also been employed in several positions with Altercare Country Lawn Nursing Home in Navarre, currently serving as Director of Housekeeping.
A loving and devoted husband, dad, son, and brother, a loyal friend, and a dedicated first responder, Shane was known to be a very caring person. He cherished his wife and family, the homelife they enjoyed together, and the good and lasting friendships made along the way. And like all who willingly place themselves in harm’s way to protect our lives and property, he understood the anxieties and sacrifices experienced by those who waited for his safe return from the work and the sense of duty he was so deeply passionate about. So, in return, he loved each of them, and all they loved and did together, even more.
Shane is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years, Sherri L. (Moore) Stantz, married August 7, 1999; and her son, Dustin Moore, of Canton whom Shane raised as his own; his parents; Jack and Susie Stantz, of Navarre, brother, Shawn (Michelle) Stantz, of Pataskala, Ohio; father- and mother-in-law, Benjamin and Sharon Moore, of Navarre, and brother-in-law, Michael Moore, of Massillon.

The Stark County Fire Fighters Association will conduct a Last Alarm ceremony at 7:00 p.m. A brief funeral and committal service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, July 28, at the graveside in East Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre.
