Sara E. “Sally” Frieg, 93, of Massillon, passed away on January 20, 2021. She was born on June 22, 1927, to the late Forest G. and Pauline J. (Evans) Shelt. Sally graduated from Washington High School in 1945, and from Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She retired as a Registered Nurse from Aultman Hospital. Sally was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon. She enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, and spoiling her Scottish terriers. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader for many years. Sally had a kind and giving heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Frieg; brother, Larry Shelt (killed in WWII and recipient of the Purple Heart); and daughter-in-law, Nancy Devine. She is survived by her brother Thomas E. Shelt; children Stephen Frieg, Laurie Licht, Jane (Kevin) Quinn and Sarah (Bob) Kuhn; grandchildren, Daniel Quinn and Jack and Madison Kuhn.
A private memorial service will be held on Monday, January 25, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Rev. Larry Lalama will officiate. Internment will be at Western Reserve National Cemetery.
