We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Massillon Chapel
On November 20, 2021, the world lost a good guy. Bob Egan passed away peacefully. Born in January 1947, to John “Junie” and June Egan, Bob graduated from Tuslaw High School in 1965, and lived his entire life in Massillon. His work resume included Perry Rubber, Fleming Foods and Avalon Foods where he retired as Warehouse Supervisor in 2018. Bob never met a stranger. He always had a smile to all he encountered. Even after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2018, he kept a sunny outlook and didn’t complain. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his life. Bob was a huge NASCAR fan attended many races with friends. He was able to fix anything; was handy at carpentry, car repairs and electronics. He loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas! Even though our hearts are broken, we know he is finally free from pain and will be watching over us. He leaves a legacy of kindness and friendliness.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lori Egan Hornberger and mother-in-law, Eleanor Hamel; Bob leaves his wife of 50 years, Janie; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carrie Egan and daughter and son-in-law, Tory and Dustin Rohr; grandchildren, Kelby (Jacob) Porter, Ty and Caitlyn Egan, and Griffen and Drake Rohr; great-granddaughter, Kiani Porter; and brother, Bill Egan, of Florida. Also surviving is his father-in-law, James Hamel; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Joan and Ralph Leidy, Jim Hamel and Joe and Sondra Hamel; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. The family would also like to thank Bob’s loyal and devoted caregivers, Nancy, Christine, Connie and Sarah, who all brought skill, care and smiles to his life.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive condolences on Friday evening, December 3, 2021, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. A celebration of Bob’s life will be conducted Saturday morning, December 4th, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by inurnment at Brookfield Cemetery. At the request of the family, our Covid protocols have been reinstated – even for those who’ve been vaccinated, so masking is required, and social distancing will be observed while indoors. They have also suggested memorial contributions made in care of Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave., SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
