Robert J. Crofut, 90, of Massillon, with his wife, Barbara at his side, passed away quietly Friday morning, November 12, 2021. Born in Jackson Township, January 17, 1931, a son to the late Chester A. “Chet” and Dorothy (Rhodes) Crofut, Bob graduated from Massillon Washington High School with the Class of 1949. He served honorably in the United States Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict and had been employed as a machinist with the Timken Company, retiring after 44 years of dedicated service during which he never missed a day of work! Lutheran by faith, he often attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Massillon. He valued his privacy and preferred a modest lifestyle, looking to the needs of his family, their home, and caring for several beloved cats. Bob was always proud of his car and his lawn and invested hours of his leisure time seeing that both met his exacting standards. He was also a faithful fan of the Cleveland Indians.
Predeceased by his parents; his brother, Paul Crofut; and step-father, Bob Pratt; Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara K. (Hauenstein) Crofut, of the residence; their son, Steven R. Crofut (and Bill Dewalt) of Atlanta; and sister, Mrs. Doris Yingling, of Massillon.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service celebrating Bob’s life at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Rev. Mark Kreemer will officiate. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 3-4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
