Richard Blazy "Dick" McClain

Richard Blazy McClain, of Massillon, died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of 91.  Born in Salinevile, Ohio, March 21, 1931, a son to the late Raymond and Geneva (Blazy) McClain, Dick lived most of his life in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School.  He is a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve, having served from 1949-’53.  Dick was employed as a mechanical engineer and worked for several companies over the years, including 24 years with Diebold, Inc., where he retired in 1987.  He worked an additional nine years for Redicon Corp. in Canton, before marking his full and final retirement.  A long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Canton, Dick served as a trustee for many years.  He was involved in various church activities including Golden Sunshiners, running the sound system, and volunteering his experience in care and maintenance of the church building.  He was also active in the Boys Scouts of America for many years, serving as a Scout Master while his sons were troop members. 

Predeceased by his parents; and his sisters, Margaret Jane Lance, Norma McClain, and Eleanor Woodruff; Dick is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Phyllis E. (Burdette) McClain, and their sons, Richard P. (Sandra) McClain and David A. (Penni) McClain, all of Massillon.  Also surviving are four grandsons, David A. (Alyssa) McClain II, Adam (Lauren) McClain, Andrew McClain and Brian (Sarah) McClain; three great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Pastor Randy Newcomer, Senior Pastor of Central Baptist Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton where Dick’s nephew, Dr. Charles Wilson, Senior Pastor of Carrollton Bible Chapel will conduct the committal service.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  They have also suggested memorial contributions made to the donor’s charity of choice.
