Richard D. LeMay, 89, of Navarre, our beloved Dad, Gramps and Great Gramps, passed peacefully from us to be reunited with many loved ones on Friday, April 10, 2026. His life had been one of dedication to his family and service to his country and his neighbors. Born in Canton, May 22, 1936, a son to the late Joseph and Jennie (Alexander) LeMay, Dick completed his GED before serving in the US Army near the end of the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable service to the nation, Dick and his wife, Jackie, became residents of Richville, where he worked for the USPS as a letter carrier in the Village of Navarre. He was affectionately known as the “mailman from Navarre” and never met a stranger. Working side-by-side he and Jackie later opened LeMay’s Hall of Foam in Canton, Ohio. It remained a family-friendly gathering spot for more than a decade until its closing in 1998.
While his wife and family were his constant strength and the center of his life, in his leisure time Dick enjoyed golfing, traveling and playing poker with the guys. A faithful sports fan he followed the Browns, Guardians and the Buckeyes. You would likely find him listening to country music with his faithful furbaby “Boots” always at his side. His social memberships included the The McKinley Eagles Aerie 2370, and Navarre VFW Post 5047, where he had served as Quartermaster for many years. Dick was also a volunteer driver for the Canton VA Clinic, providing safe transportation, conversation and gentle care to his fellow veterans.
Predeceased by his parents; his dear wife of 54 years, Jackie (Philpott) LeMay, their daughter, Suzanne LeMay Bradshaw, and their son, John LeMay; his sisters, Evelyn (and Chester) Timmons and Thelma Smith, brothers, Gene, Cloyd, Harold and Bob; Dick is survived by his devoted daughter, Brenda LeMay, of Navarre, grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Richard (Priya) LeMay, Brandon LeMay, Ashlee Woods, Olivia Bradshaw, Sonny Bradshaw (and Alex Baxter), and Christopher Janosz, Jr. (and Chase Buzzelli). Also surviving are several great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and treasured friends.
We would love to have you join us as we mark Dad’s passing with a Celebration of Life at the Navarre VFW Post 5047 – 6680 Woodland Hills Road SW, Navarre, Ohio 44662, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The family will gather to receive condolences beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed at 2:00 p.m. with a time to reminisce and share some personal stories. Military Honors will close the service at 2:30 p.m. Please consider, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Rose Lane Hospice located in Massillon, Ohio. They showed him and his family tremendous empathy and compassion and helped his last days be filled with care and kindness. Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with immediate arrangements. If you can’t join us in person, please add your memories and condolences to Dick’s on-line guestbook here or at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
