Phyllis E. McClain, of Massillon, died Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the age of 88. Born February 12, 1934, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Fred and Corena Burdette, she spent most of her life in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1952. Phyllis worked as a tax preparer for many years, employed by H&R Block and Stark Tax & Financial Services before opening her own tax preparation business. She and her husband were long time members of Central Baptist Church in Canton, where she was involved in various activities over the years, including singing in the church choir and working in the church kitchen, preparing meals for Golden Sunshiners, funeral dinners, and special events.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than seventy years, Richard Blazy McClain, who died May 30, 2022; brothers, Fred, Paul and Tony Burdette; and her sisters, Maureen Wilson and Oneda Stilgenbauer; Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Richard P. (Sandra) McClain and David A. (Penni) McClain, all of Massillon; four grandsons, David A. (Alyssa) McClain II, Adam (Lauren) McClain, Andrew McClain and Brian (Sarah) McClain; three great-granddaughters, a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Pastor Randy Newcomer, Senior Pastor of Central Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, where Phyllis’s nephew, Dr. Charles Wilson, Senior Pastor of Carrollton Bible Chapel, will conduct the committal service. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. They have also suggested memorial contributions made to the donor’s charity of choice.
