Nancy Jean Vollmer, 84, formerly of Massillon, more recently of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away quietly, Thursday evening, July 14, 2022. Born in Brewster, Ohio, September 5, 1937, a daughter to the late Samuel and Betty (Swartz) Majcan, Nancy graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1955, and had been an area resident until 2020. A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom and grandma, Nancy had been a homemaker while her boys were small. She later returned to work and following nearly twenty years of faithful service, retired from the Personnel and Human Resources office of Nickles Bakery in Navarre. She had attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Massillon and enjoyed volunteering her time to the Massillon Museum.
Predeceased by her parents; and in 2015, by her husband, Frederick J. “Fred” Vollmer; Nancy is survived by her sons, Alan (Mary Christine “Chris”) Vollmer, of Summerville, SC, and Andrew “Andy” (Lorrie) Vollmer, of Independence, Ohio; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include her sisters, Frances Majcan and Shirley DeOrio, and a brother, Jim (Melanie) Majcan, all residing in this area.
The family will mark Nancy’s passing with a Chapel Service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. They will receive condolences 30 minutes prior to the start of the service, from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Rev. David Zerby, interim pastor of St. John's UCC will officiate. Nancy will be placed into rest privately, beside her husband, a veteran of the US Navy, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family has also encouraged memorial contributions made to worthy organizations supporting our veterans or the donor’s charity of choice.
