Nancy L. Shankle, 88, of Massillon, passed away gently, late Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025. Born in Massillon, October 10, 1936, the daughter of the late Don and Phyllis (Viles) Brunker, Nancy graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1954. While in high school she played clarinet in the Tiger “Swing” Band and throughout her adulthood enjoyed keeping in touch with her former bandmates. In addition, she remained an avid and loyal fan of Tiger sports as a football season ticket holder for more than sixty years, and a basketball season ticket holder for thirty years.
A faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she played in the bell choir, Nancy was a devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom and grandma, and a gracious aunt to several nieces and nephews. She had worked as a teller for several area banks before retiring after 25 years of service with the Massillon School Employee’s Credit Union. At the same time, she managed the finances for her husband’s business, the former Shankle Electric.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling with her girlfriends, Jan Vogelgesang and Sandy Self; loved to travel, sew, knit and crochet. Her social memberships included Spring Hill Historic Home and Lost in the ‘50’s Car Club.
Predeceased by her parents, and her husband, Glenn A. Shankle - Nancy and Glenn were married on her birthday in 1959, and celebrated 40 years together. Nancy is survived by her son, Kim A. (Vickie) Shankle, of Massillon, and daughter, Jodi; her granddaughter, Michelle Lambach; dear cousins, Larry and Bev Brunker, nieces, nephews, and granddog, Lexi.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Rev. Mark Kreemer will officiate, and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive condolences Tuesday evening, June 3, 2025, from 5-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
