Murray L. Walker, 83, of Navarre, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 2025, following a period of declining health. Born in Barberton, Ohio, February 10, 1942, a son to the late Murray and Connie (Cole) Walker, Murray graduated from Copley High School with the Class of 1960. Known to friends and family as “Zeke,” his entire professional career was spent with The Babcock & Wilcox Company in Barberton, as a tool engineer. He started there just out of high school and retired in 1998. He also served proudly and honorably as a member of the Ohio Army National Guard from 1963-1969.
A devoted husband, a beloved brother and uncle, and a loyal friend, Murray had been a faithful and active member of the former Fohl United Methodist Church, serving on the church board, as a trustee, and usher. More recently he was attending Otterbein United Methodist Church. In his leisure time, as his health allowed, he enjoyed bowling with friends and workmates in league play and tournaments, and with his wife, Connie, in singles and couples leagues. He also liked to camp. His favorite hobby was woodworking, and he loved every minute he spent at his workbench in his basement workshop. Early or late, you never had to wonder where he was. When the day’s work was done, even sometimes before it started, you’d find him there.
Murray’s family meant the world to him. He was loved and respected by them all and he will be missed. Predeceased by his mom and dad, and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Christopher) Haddad, Murray is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie L. (Christopher) Walker; his sister, Sandra Jones, and brother, Richard (Nadine) Walker; niece, Susan Jones; and an extended family that includes his brother-in-law, Rick Haddad, several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Family and friends will gather with Rev. Carl Orphanides of Otterbein UMC, in celebration and thanksgiving for Murray’s life on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at noon, and close with the rendering of military honors in the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Murray’s on-line guestbook.
