Mildred Whitmer Obituary

Mildred Loretta Whitmer, 97, of Navarre, following a long and blessed life, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, early Friday morning, December 1, 2017.  Born in Navarre, December 26, 1919, a daughter to the late Albertus and Eva Christina (Phouts) McFarren, Millie was a graduate of Massillon Washington High School and an area resident throughout her entire life.  A devoted wife and a loving mom, “grammy” and “grab,” she was a homemaker but had worked part-time at the former Navarre Elementary School and the former Dick Jacobson’s Fine Furniture in Perry Township.  While her health permitted, she was a very active member of Fohl United Methodist Church in Navarre and held membership in a number of social and philanthropic organizations including the Welcome-In Club, the Triple O Club and the Polish Dance Club.  For over 45 years she delivered Meals On Wheels in the Massillon area.  She was proud of her Irish heritage and an experienced international traveler having sailed on the Queen Elizabeth II (QE2) and visited several countries in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Predeceased by her parents; husband, John E. Whitmer, Sr., daughter, Wanda and son-in-law, Gary Smith and son, Timothy L. Whitmer; Millie is survived by her son, John E. (Deb) Whitmer, Jr., of Massillon; grandchildren, Anita (Randall) Janson, of Brewster, Gary Todd (JoAnn) Smith, of Canton, Jennifer (Matthew) Hartzler, of Hartville and Rebecca (Dan) Hatt, of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Clay (Lauren) Janson and Cory Janson, all of Brewster, Timothy and Gregory Smith, both of Canton, Charlotte and Thomas Hatt, of Columbus and Andrew and Abigail Hartzler, of Hartville.  Two dear great-great-granddaughters and a host of beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 6, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Navarre.  Burial will follow in Union Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive condolences Tuesday evening, December 5, from 5-7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 10-11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to advance the mission and ministry of Fohl Memorial United Methodist Church, 121 Basin Street NW, Navarre, Ohio  44662
