Mark A. Boyd, 69, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, May 14, 2023, with his family at his side. Born in Massillon, June 19, 1953, a son to the late Melvin R. and Phyllis M. (Grafton) Boyd, Mark graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1971. Most of his professional career – what he might have considered the best part – was spent managing the former Studer’s Sporting Goods store in downtown Massillon. He made it his business to be knowledgeable about all sports. But knowing his business was just a small part of who he was and what he did. Guided by the golden rule, it could be said that he never met a stranger. Mark was warm-hearted, generous, and compassionate even toward people he’d never met. He enjoyed people and the opportunity to serve his old classmates, friends, fellow merchants, and other sports enthusiasts in the city where he grew up was a source of real pride – and a lot of fun! A loving and supportive dad and grandpa, with a quirky sense of humor, Mark was at his best when he was with his family. They enjoyed traveling together, and in his leisure time, he was an avid student of the game of golf.
Predeceased by his parents; and his fur buddy, Rocky, aka “The Mayor of 25th Street;” Mark is survived by his daughters, Jana (Joe) LoCoco, Jennifer (AJ) Budner, and Sara (Mick) Dorsey, all of Massillon; his grandchildren, Vendela, Hayven, Joey, Jacob, Drew, Lilli, Addie, Caleb, and Tanner; his brother, Todd (Rose) Boyd, also of Massillon; and a host of treasured friends.
In keeping with Mark’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Pastor John Stallings of Shepherd’s Hill Church will officiate at a celebration of Mark’s life on Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2023, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. The family will receive condolences from 4-6:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please consider remembering Mark with a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Your memories are always welcome and may be added to our on-line guestbook at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
