Kathleen Darnell Oliver Obituary

Kathleen R. Darnell Oliver, 61, of Massillon, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, December 8, 2024, after a brief illness. Born in Massillon, December 29, 1962, daughter to John H. “Jack” and Angeline (Paradeses) Darnell, Kathy graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1981.

A treasured wife and a loving and supportive mom, grandma, daughter, sister and aunt, Kathy placed her family at the center of her life.  Kathy was a natural born caregiver and will always be remembered for her dedication to her family, always putting others first and being there to care for her loved ones without hesitation.  Coming from a family with deep roots in the community and in Massillon specifically, Kathy enjoyed local history and used her passion for research to share her findings regularly as the founder of the Reminiscing in Massillon Facebook group; a group that brought joy and nostalgia to the community.

Additional hobbies of Kathy’s included collecting antiques, riding her bike, going on walks, gardening and anything else that involved the outdoors and nature.

A member of Divine Mercy Parish, Kathy’s social memberships included the DAR, the Massillon FOE #190, the Massillon Museum, the Massillon Women’s Club, and the Massillon Heritage Foundation.

Predeceased by her dad, former MFD Captain Jack Darnell, and infant brother, Kenny Darnell; Kathy is survived by her husband, Brian Oliver, their daughters, Jessica Oliver (Sam Moore), and Josie (James) Mathis, and grandchildren, Hadley Oliver, and Benjamin Moore.  Additional survivors include her mother, Mrs. Angeline Darnell; her sisters, Diane (Michael) Becker, and Julie Darnell, and brothers, David (Michelle) Darnell, Tim Darnell, Dan (Mary Lou) Darnell and Jim (Amy) Darnell; a large extended family and a host of dear friends.

Kathy’s family and friends will mark her entry into the Church Triumphant with a Funeral Mass, celebrated with Fr. John Sheridan, J.C.L. V.F., at Divine Mercy Parish at St. Barbara's at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
