Judith Mae (Mattison) Whitmer

Judith Mae Whitmer, 71, of Navarre, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family following a courageous battle with cancer on Friday afternoon, April 14, 2017.  Born March 12, 1946, in Sugarcreek, Ohio, a daughter to the late Walter and Thelma (Meisner) Mattison, Sr., Judith had been a home maker and an area resident nearly all of her adult life.  A devoted wife, mom and grandma, she placed her family at the center of her life and treasured the time they spent together.  She loved camping – especially in her favorite spot at Gilford Lake.
Preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Sally (Leroy) Schwartz, Helen (Don) Dillon and Ardene VanPelt and her brothers, Robert (Dorothy) and James (June) Mattison; Judith is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gary Lee Whitmer, Sr., and their children, Theresa (John) Baughman, of Florida, Gary Lee (Deanna) Whitmer, Jr. and Rebecca Whitmer ( and Ramon Massie), all of Navarre; her grandson, Nicolas Pellegrino, of Florida; sisters, Edith (Dean) Hively, of Salem and Martha (Bill) Rosenberry, of Stonecreek, and brother, Walter (Sue) Mattison, Jr., of Navarre.  Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and friends all of whom she held very close to her heart.
A Celebration of her life will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, April 18, 2017, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Navarre.   Friends and family may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  The family extends a special “thank you,” to the caregivers of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
