John Walrath Obituary

John William “Bill” Walrath, 89, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, early Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021.  Born in Orrville, Ohio, October 12, 1931, a son to the late Winfield S. and Isabel L. (Fish) Walrath, Bill graduated from Massillon Washington High School with the Class of 1949.  He is an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and earning the rank of Pfc.  Bill owned and operated Massillon Machine & Die Shop from 1955 until his retirement in 1995.  An active and long-time member of the former Wesley United Methodist faith community, he most recently attended Central Presbyterian Church and his social memberships included the DAV Massillon Chapter 38.  He will be missed by those he loved and who knew him best - as a dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, a loyal friend, and a fellow veteran.

Predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jane Elizabeth (Waxler) Walrath and son, Stephen W. Walrath; sister, Velma Walrath Pomeroy and brother, Howard Walrath; Bill is survived by his son, Jeffery A. (Marcie) Walrath, of Massillon; step-daughter, Gail M. (Kenneth) Billman, of North Canton and step-son, Gary L. (Julie) Gerber, of Canton.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be conducted privately with arrangements entrusted to Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Face coverings are required for those attending and social distancing protocols will be observed.  The family has suggested memorial contributions to advance the mission and ministry of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.  Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added to our on-line guestbook at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
