John Stantz Obituary

John Ray “Jack” Stantz, 78, of Navarre, passed away quietly, late Monday afternoon, March 16, 2026.  Born in Massillon, August 30, 1947, a son to the late Jack M. and Norma J. (Smith) Stantz, Jack graduated from Fairless High School with the Class of 1965.  He served honorably in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant.  Stationed at the former Warner Barracks in Bamburg, Bavaria (Germany), Jack was keenly intrigued by the history, significance, and culture surrounding the base and its environs and liked to study the details of each aspect as his time would allow.

A member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Jack was always ready and willing to lend a hand in support of his faith community or to anyone who looked to him for help.

His work history was varied and usually involved hard, heavy work – in the warehouses of the former Superior Brand Meats, The Spindler Co., Mid’s and others.  After retiring he did some lighter work for Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Homes in Massillon and Navarre.

In his leisure time, Jack enjoyed being with people but he especially loved being with his wife and family: summer outings swimming at Clay’s Park – where he was hailed by the family as the “Barrel King” for his special skills; backyard cook-outs, holiday dinners, going out to eat together or just relaxing with the grand-dogs watching old TV westerns or a James Bond movie.

Predeceased by his mom and dad, his son, Shane, and brother, Bob; Jack is survived by his wife, Susan D. (King) Stantz, of the home, and son, Shawn (Michelle) Stantz, of Pataskla, Ohio; sister, Laurie (Thomas) Salopek, of Massillon, brother, Don Stantz, of Navarre, daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sherri Stantz, of Navarre, sister-in-law, Mrs. Sandra Stantz, of Arcadia, Florida, and his two favorite fur buddies, Magy and Roxy.

Honoring Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A celebration of his life will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2026, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon, beginning with visitation from 2:30-3:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:30.  Rev. Carl Orphanides of Otterbein UMC will officiate, and military honors will close the service.

Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Jack’s on-line guestbook .
