Joan Evans Harrold

Joan E. Harrold, 90, of Massillon, passed away gently, early Monday morning, October 21, 2024.  Born in Massillon, October 8, 1934, a daughter to the late Charles and Leona (Johnston) Evans, Joan graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1952.  In her senior year, Joan was a candidate for “Miss Massillonian.”

A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom, Joan placed her family at the center of her life.  She enjoyed music and singing – especially choral music, throughout her life.  She shared her fine soprano voice with the choir at Grace United Church of Christ where she attended and had been a member of the Canton Symphony Chorus for several years.  In the 1980’s Joan traveled with a choral group and performed in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

An avid Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan her entire life, she attended many games as a child with her father, Charles, and saw some of the greats including Lou Boudreau, Bob Feller, and Satchel Paige.

Joan also loved Christmas, often having as many as six trees of varying sizes in the house, decorating each of them with her large collection of electric ornaments – the “sparklier” the better!  And she was a true animal lover, having rescued many cats and dogs throughout her life.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Donald Harrold; daughter, Alison Harrold-Black; and her sister, Nonne (Evans) Briegel; Joan is survived by her daughter, Heather Harrold, now living in West Virginia.

Honoring Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon. Pastor Karen McEwen will officiate, and a private burial will follow.  Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with arrangements.  Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Joan’s on-line guestbook.  Memorial contributions in Joan's name are suggested to the Humane Society of Stark County, PO Box 7077, Canton, Ohio  44705.
