Jeane Johns Obituary

Jeane L. Johns, our beloved mom, grandma and grammy, passed away peacefully Monday evening, December 6, 2021.  She met her Savior with the same humility and quiet confidence that she lived her earthly life.  Born in Massillon, November 27, 1927, a daughter to the late William and Nora (Rhine) Stiffler, mom had just celebrated her 94th birthday.  She graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1945 and had been a full-time homemaker.  A life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Massillon, her faith community was an extension of her own family and she served all of us with energy, enthusiasm and grace.  She avoided the spotlight but when there was work to be done, she was always there and willing to do more than her share.  Family meant everything to her and she was truly the glue that held us together.  Mom loved to walk.  Not a casual stroll mind you, but at a brisk pace, often putting in several miles before finally turning for home.  And she enjoyed listening to Cleveland Indians baseball on the radio – often during one of her walks.

In addition to her parents, Jeane is predeceased by our dad, Donald V. Johns, who passed away in 1983; two of her grandchildren, Jarrodd Johns and Melissa Kracker; and her two sisters, Shirlee (Stiffler) Luthi and Helen (Stiffler) Little.  She is survived by her daughter, Claudia (Robert) Kracker, and sons, Craig M. (Catherine) and Chris S. (Sharon) Johns, all of Massillon; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Honoring mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. until noon, in the funeral home.  For the safety of all attending, face coverings are required, and social distancing protocols will be observed.  The family has suggested memorial contributions made to St. Paul’s Social Welfare & Action Committee.
