Obituary
Jean K. Hawk, 98, of Dalton, formerly of Massillon, passed away late Monday evening, August 29, 2022, following a brief illness. Born in Massillon on March 22, 1924, a daughter to the late Charles E. and Clara (Burlyoung) Rohr, Jean graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1944. She was employed by Acme Dairy and Singer Sewing Center, both formerly in Massillon. Jean married Ernest J. Hawk on July 20, 1951, celebrating 59 years together until his passing in 2010. She was a loving mother, grandmother and known as “Cookie” to her great-grandchildren. Cooking, baking and taking care of her family brought her the most joy.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Hawk; brother, Charles R. Rohr; sisters, Doris Rohr Mangus, Eleanor Rohr Mangus, Norma Rohr Scharver and Lois Rohr. Jean leaves behind her son, Charles (Nancy) Hawk, of Brewster, and her daughter, Kathleen (David) Vaughn, of Dalton; four loving grandchildren, Ernest (Jeneia) Hawk, of Massillon, Daniel (Paula) Vaughn, of Massillon, Lori (Derek) Shanklin, of Navarre and Pamela (Dustin) Miller, of Dalton; eight spectacular great-grandchildren, Carter Shanklin, of Navarre, Blake Hawk, of Massillon, Casey Miller, of Dalton, Lance Shanklin, of Navarre, Ava Hawk, of Massillon, Hallie Shanklin, of Navarre, Caden Miller, of Dalton and Colt Vaughn, of Massillon.
Jean desired to be cremated. There are no calling hours and private services will be held at the convenience of her family. She will be buried at Sixteen Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested in Jean’s name to Sixteen St. John’s Church, 1588 Manchester Ave., SW, North Lawrence, OH 44666. The family wishes to warmly thank the physicians, nurses and professional staff of the Aultman Compassionate Care Center and Aultman Hospice for their friendship and the extraordinary care and attention they and Jean received.
