Jackson Sneed, Sr. Obituary

Jackson H. Sneed, Sr., 86, of Canal Fulton, passed away Tuesday morning, December 14, 2021.  Born in Lenore, West Virginia, September 8, 1935, a son to the late Aaron and Dolly (Raines) Sneed, Jack spent most of his adult life in Ohio.

He retired from Republic Steel Corp., after more than 30 years of faithful service in various production-related and supervisory positions.  An undeniably hard worker, long days and double shifts were not uncommon; he was a good provider and looked to the needs of his wife and family – it’s what a man did.  A devoted husband and a caring and supportive dad and grandpa, Jack showed his affection in different ways.  He was often ornery; liked to kidd, made an art of teasing, and loved to laugh.  His expectations were high.  He’d set an example for us to follow, and we knew he’d have our back, but it was up to us to get the job done and do it right.  He respected you and a job well done!  In his leisure time, you’d find Jack in his garden.  He also loved to hunt and fish.  And when the workday was done, he’d have the checkerboard out or the euchre deck ready and be looking for a partner to take on all comers!

Predeceased by his parents; his dear wife of 43 years, Shirley D. (Geiger) Sneed; a daughter, Kim Sneed Mitchell; his sister, Betsy, and brothers, William and Robert; Jack is survived by his daughter, Suzanna (Todd) Smith, of Canton, and sons, Jackson, Jr., of Doylestown, Jeremiah, of Massillon and Samuel, of Canal Fulton, with whom he resided.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kali Mitchell (and Roman Grankin), Madelyn Smith, Abby Smith and Aaron Sneed; along with Jack’s sisters, Pauline, Blanche and Irene, and brother, David Sneed.

Funeral services will be conducted at the noon hour on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Major Thomas Perks of the Salvation Army, Massillon Corps., will officiate and burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the services, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  For the safety of all attending, face masks are required, and social distancing protocols will be observed.
