Helen L. Tissot, of Massillon, following a long and well-lived life, with her treasured daughter-in-law at her side, and in the comfort of her home, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, June 7, 2023. She was 99 years old. Born in Massillon, March 11, 1924, a daughter to the late W. Brady and Mary Alice (Pickens) Heaton, Helen graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1942. She remained a Massillon resident her entire life and an enthusiastic supporter of the community she called home. A member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Helen was a devoted wife, a loving and supportive, fun-loving mom, and a gracious aunt. Primarily a homemaker, she also kept the books for her husband’s business, the former R.L. Tissot Plumbing and Heating in Navarre. In her leisure time she enjoyed working in her yard; shopping, going to auctions and shopping for antiques. She particularly enjoyed vacationing at Hilton Head.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Richard L. Tissot; and her son, Richard L. “Ric” Tissot II; and siblings, Flora Moore, Flossie Abbot, James “Lee” Heaton, Emma Cooper, Charles Heaton, Beulah Englehart and John Heaton; Helen is survived by her daughter-in-law, Deborah K. (Fender) Tissot, of Canton, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Honoring Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather to mark her passing with a chapel service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, in the mausoleum chapel at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon. Rev. Dr. David M. Oliver, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Massillon will officiate, with a private inurnment to follow. There are no calling hours.
