Obituary

Geraldine B. “Gerry” Moyer, of Massillon, following a rich and purposeful life as a treasured wife and beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, February 5, 2022.  She was 98 years old.  Born in Massillon, July 24, 1923, a daughter to the late Joe and Nellie (Getz) Engelhardt, Gerry graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1941.  While still in high school she worked as a cook at the Sugar Bowl and throughout her adult life was renown for her cooking skills.  Following high school, she worked as a secretary with the former Griscom Russell Company and served as one of the company’s air raid wardens during World War II.  When her husband, Ray, returned from overseas, Gerry became a full-time wife and mom, focusing on her home and growing family.  As her husband’s business prospered, she returned to work as the financial secretary for Moyer Brothers Construction.  A faithful and dedicated member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and more recently, Grace UCC, Gerry taught Sunday school and when called upon, lent her cooking skills to church suppers and other events.  She also volunteered with the Sesame (Street) of Massillon Pre-School Program.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Raymond W. Moyer; her son, Bruce M. Moyer; her sister Stella, and brothers, Tom, Robert “Pooch,” Russell “Jiggs,” Karl and Don Englehardt; Gerry is survived by her sons, Tim (Pat) Moyer, of Massillon and Kurt Moyer, of North Lawrence.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Marc Moyer, Erin (Rick) McMerrell, Lara (Sean) Wade, Stacy (Randy) Grage and Eric Moyer; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Paige, Lauren, Molly (fiancé Zach McCormick), Katie, Maxwell, Ava, Mia and Gage; and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Cindy Moyer, also of Massillon.

The family will mark Gerry’s passing with a private chapel service.  Rev. Karen McEwen of Grace UCC will officiate, and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to advance the mission and ministry of Grace UCC, 933 Main Avenue, West, Massillon, Ohio 44647.  Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with arrangements.
