Esther Jean (Conrad) Kidd

Esther Jean Kidd, 97, formerly of Massillon, passed away peacefully, while she slept, early Saturday morning, January 18, 2025.  Born October 30, 1927, at the family home in Holmes County, Ohio, Jean was the youngest of seven children born to the late Roy and Zelpha (Shaffer) Conrad.  She married Karl Kidd on November 23, 1947, and they shared 57 years together prior to his passing in 2004.

A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Jean placed her husband and family at the center of her life.  Her extended family included the faith community of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon where Jean had been faithful and active member of the church for more than 70 years.  She served in several lay-leadership positions including as a deacon, singing in the choir, the Hope-Rebecca Circle, the PW Board, Saturday Need-a-Lunch, and the Central Quilters.  In 1987 she retired from the former Massillon K-Mart following 21 years of dedicated customer service.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Karl E. Kidd, son, Karl G. Kidd, siblings, Mary, Ila, Coral, Florence, John, and Harold, and son-in-law, Byron W. Lash; Jean is survived by her daughter, Cheryl L. Lash, of Dalton; grandchildren, Kristine (Bill) Soper and Traci (Mark) Quate; and great-grandchildren, Mary, and Michael Soper, all of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Friends will gather and offer condolences beginning at 2:15 in the funeral home.  A private burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.  The family extends a sincere “thank you” to the dedicated professional staff of Orrville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Crossroads Hospice.  They further suggest memorial contributions to advance the mission and ministry of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon.  Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Jean’s on-line guestbook.
