Eleanor Weatherbee Obituary

Eleanor B. Weatherbee, 82, of Jackson Township, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home and with her husband at her side, early Wednesday morning, December 1, 2021.  Born in Cleveland, December 15, 1938, a daughter to the late Emil Daiber and Elfrieda (Smith) Daiber, Ellie graduated from Cleveland John Marshall High School with the Class of 1956.  She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University where she met her husband of 61 years, Harold Weatherbee.  Harold and Eleanor were proud Massillon-area residents throughout their married life.  A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mother and grandmother, she created a warm and welcoming home filled with happy memories for her husband, her children and her grandchildren.  After her children were grown, Ellie worked for a time as a legal secretary for several area law offices.  She was a faithful and active member of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon for nearly 60 years.  Her social memberships included the Massillon Woman’s Club, and she was a regular volunteer at the former Affinity Hospital.  A life-long learner, Ellie played the piano, enjoyed all music, reading and liked to sew.  She enjoyed word games and was, according to her grandson, an undisputed “Scrabble Master!”

Predeceased by her parents; Ellie is survived by her husband, Harold Weatherbee; their children, Jill (Geoffrey) Eicher, of Portage Lakes, Doug (Tracy) Weatherbee, of Massillon, and David Weatherbee, of Delafield, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kurt (Kendal) Eicher, Lauren Eicher and Max Eicher, Clayton and Chase Weatherbee, and April, Jacquelyn, George and Gus Weatherbee.  Her brother, Eric (Charlotte) Daiber, twin sister, Evelyn Daiber Workman, and sister, Gretchen Daiber also survive, along with many treasured friends.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will mark Ellie’s passing with a private service.  They have suggested memorial contributions made in care of the Massillon Heritage Foundation.  Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with arrangements.
