Elaine Kohl, 88, of Massillon, passed away as gently as she had lived on Wednesday evening, June 6, 2018. Born in Newman, on New Year’s Day, 1930, a daughter to the late Benjamin and Mildred (Koontz) Caillet, Elaine was a graduate of Washington High School. As a wife and mother of six, she was very much a full-time mom and home maker, a skilled baker and a wonderful cook. But once her family was grown, she worked for a time at the former Baltino Frozen Foods Corp. – now Heinz North America, in Massillon and more recently worked just part-time at Jay’s Pizza. She was a faithful member of the Salvation Army in Massillon and in her everyday life Elaine lived out the virtues that Paul described to the early church in Corinth (13:4-7). Gentle, patient, resilient, ever hopeful, always helpful – that’s our mom and grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma! That’s what made her special. That’s what we’ll remember.
Preceded in death by her parents; step-father, William Crowel and just six weeks ago by her husband of 70 years, David A. Kohl; her daughters, Penelope Kohl Ferryman and Linda Kohl Ridgeway; sons-in-law, Cliff Ridgeway and James Alexander; her sister and three brothers; Elaine is survived by her children, Sharon (Roger) Mick, of Canton, Frances Kohl Alexander and David (Susan) Kohl, all of Massillon and Kenneth (Deb) Kohl, of Cape Coral, Florida. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 Monday morning, June 11, 2018, at the Massillon Salvation Army. Majors Thomas and Linda Jo Perks and Ralph and Diana Campbell will officiate and a private burial at Massillon Cemetery will follow. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the services, from 10-11:00 a.m. in the church. They have also suggested memorial contributions made to advance the mission and ministry of the Massillon Salvation Army, 315 - 6th Street Northeast, Massillon, Ohio 44646
