Edward Pittman Obituary

Edward S. Pittman, 84, of Navarre, our treasured husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, passed away unexpectedly late Thursday evening. May 21, 2026, following a period of declining health.  Born May 7, 1942, in Carrollton, Ohio, a son to the late Harry and Bernice (Franklin) Pittman, Ed graduated from Perry High School with the Class of 1960.  From 1964-68, he served honorably and with distinction in the United States Air Force, including a tour of service in Vietnam, and earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Most of his professional career was invested with Gregory Galvanizing in Canton, where he worked as a welder until his retirement.

A faithful member of Cross Pointe Church in Canton, a devoted husband, a caring provider, and a loving and supportive dad and grandpa, Ed placed his wife and family at the center of his life.  He also supported his fellow veterans as a rider with the Ohio Patriot Guard.  The hours he spent on his trike riding for pleasure or in service with the OPG were precious to him.  But nothing brought him more joy than his family – especially his grandchildren.  Holidays, birthdays, or just hotdogs on the grill became special occasions and happy memories, laced with jokes, good-natured teasing and practical advice because that’s how being with grandma and grandpa and our family was supposed to be!  Those are the things we’ll remember!

Predeceased by his mom and dad, his brother, Gary and his sister, Jean Pittman Books; Ed is survived by his best friend and wife of 61 years, Betty L. (Bucher) Pittman, of the home, sons, Edward A. (Kirsten) Pittman, of Georgetown, Texas and Brian S. (Melissa) Pittman, of Louisville; grandchildren, Dane and Kathlyn – both actively serving in the US Navy, Breanna and Brandon, and great-grandchildren, Elise and Payton.  Additional survivors include Ed’s sister, Mrs. Pat Walters, brothers, Jim, John, Don and Harry Glenn Pittman, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Pastor Brad Myers of Cross Pointe Church will officiate.  Cremation and a private burial will follow.  The family will receive condolences in the funeral home Friday afternoon, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.  Military honors will close the service.  The family has requested no additional flowers but encourages your consideration of a memorial contribution made to the National Kidney Foundation through their secure website, https://www.kidney.org.

Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Ed’s on-line guestbook.
