Edna Mae Border, our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, following a long and purposeful life, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family, this past Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on the family farm in Tuscarawas Township, December 20, 1930, a daughter to the late Clyde and Lena (Hofer) Baughman, Edna graduated from Massillon Washington High School with the Class of 1948. She worked in banking for a short time before embracing the vocation that would become her life – as a wife and mother. Edna worked side-by-side with her husband, Chuck, other family and extended family members on the farm that was our home. As a homemaker and a full-time mom and grandma, she created a warm, loving and welcoming home and filled it with humble faith, laughter and happy memories – of birthdays and holidays, Christmas baking, summertime picnics, of line-dried laundry strung across the yard, the lunches she packed for work and school, the shirts and dresses she ironed for Sunday church. She tended her own vegetable garden and what wasn’t eaten daily was canned and put up for later. When the workday was over and the supper dishes washed and put away, sometimes there were a few minutes to just relax. She and dad would sometimes reminisce about “the old days,” the old people and the lands that were our family history. We’ll miss them and their stories but we’ll treasure them and their love for one another and each of us until we see them again!
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, our dad, Charles E. “Chuck” Border, and daughter-in-law, Judy (Powell) Border, great-great-grandson, Grayson, mom’s sister, Eva Henry and brother, Raymond Baughman; mom is survived by her children, Gene Border, Darlene (Mike) Miller, and Kathy (Jeff) Miller; grandchildren, Kristi (Nate) Schneier, Corey Woods, and Erin (Caleb) McKnight; great-grandchildren, Justin, Zack (Jada), Tyler, and Weston; and great-great-grandchildren, Zack, Mason, Skylar, and Roman.
The family will gather for a graveside service and burial at Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Evangelist Rick Kelley of Massillon Church of Christ will officiate. Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to mom’s on-line guestbook.
