Dorothy Thornberry Obituary

Dorothy Louise Thornberry, of Massillon, received the full validation of her Christian faith, as she passed away peacefully, Friday evening, February 24, 2023, at the age of 95.  Born in Pierce County, Georgia, April 24, 1927, a daughter to the late Thomas M. and Mallie E. (Roberson) Bowen, Louise graduated from the former Blackshear High School in Pierce County with the Class of 1945.  She and her husband relocated to Massillon in 1955 and had made it their home since then.

Louise was a gifted seamstress; she loved to sew and for several years worked making custom draperies in local shops and from her home.  A faithful member of Northwest Church of Christ in Canton, she was a devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom, grandma and great-grandma.  Her family held the center of her life and she dedicated herself to them in every way.  Her devotion was such that although she couldn’t stand camping because her husband found pleasure in the outdoors and loved to camp, Louise always made the best of it and went along.  She was an excellent cook and baker; loved football – and was a loyal fan of the Massillon Tigers; she loved to read and always looked forward to visiting family and friends back in southern Georgia.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband Harvey Lee Thornberry; her son, Ronald L. Thornberry; and nine siblings; Louise is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lynn Thornberry, of Buford, Georgia; grandsons, Ronald J. (Danielle) Thornberry and Brian M. Thornberry, all of Massillon; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Hunter, Chloe, Ava and Dahlia Thornberry; daughter-in-law, Charlene M. Thornberry, also of Massillon; dear friend, Brenda Bittinger; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will join with Minister John Wright to mark Louise’s passing with a private funeral and burial.  Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with arrangements.  Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added to our on-line guestbook at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
