Dewey Duane Knight, 91, of Massillon, following a life of service to his country and his community, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, June 12, 2023. Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, January 18, 1932, a son to the late Clarence and Edna (Orndorff) Knight, Duane graduated from Massillon Washington High School with the Class of 1949. He served honorably in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He attended Miami University prior to entering the service, and later completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Akron. As the owner of Stark Glass Enterprises, he experienced success in business as a craftsman and through strong relationships. But that was what he did. This is who he was: Strong willed, with a keen mind, and full of energy and drive, his life would surely have had purpose. Duane made his wife and family and friends that purpose; as a devoted husband and helpmate, a loving and supportive dad and grandpa, a loyal friend, and a responsible steward of all he had been given. He willingly gave his enthusiasm, time, and talent to worthy community efforts to pay-back and pay-forward what he, himself, had received. And with a quiet, personal faith, he learned to walk humbly with God.
Predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Melinda (Knight) Ormond; and his sister, Alberta (Knight) Swick; Duane is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis J. (Berkebile) Knight, of the home; sons, Timothy (Pam), Steven (Stacey), and Michael (Jacquie) Knight; son-in-law, Dr. Alexander Ormond III; grandchildren, Kelly (Wesley) Suplit, Renee (Joseph) Cornelius, Kevin (Taylor) Ormond, Jaclyn (Cullen) Westerfield, Justin (Gaby) Knight, Joshua (Megan) Knight, Jacob, Joelle, Caleb, and Jori Knight; great-grandchildren, Lindy and Charlie Suplit; his sister, Mrs. Vivian Renshaw; and a host of dear friends.
