Daniel Mendenhall Obituary

Daniel Joseph Mendenhall, 64, of Massillon, with his wife at his side and surrounded by his family, passed away Sunday evening, April 13, 2025.  Born in Canton, February 19,1961, a son to the late Karl J. and Terry L. (Foster) Mendenhall, Dan graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1979.  While in high school he played linebacker for coach Mike Currence on the ‘77 and ’78 Tiger football teams.  Following high school, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps., earning the rank of Lance Corporal.

His work history included 35 years of service with Wayne-Dalton Garage Doors that began while still in high school.  He returned there after his time in the military and became an extremely talented and well-regarded design engineer and draftsman.

A devoted and fun-loving husband, dad, brother and uncle, Dan loved his family.  He was a  member of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon, active in the Men’s Bible Study and other church activities.  An area resident his entire life, he was an avid Tiger football fan and a true student of the game – well before and after his playing days.  He also loved following the Buckeyes and even the Browns.

Predeceased by his mom and dad, his son Myles, and daughter, Tara; Dan is survived by his wife, Kamila “Kami” (Neeley) Mendenhall and her daughter, Kayla Perry; his sisters, Jill (Connie) Mendenhall, and Pam (George) Shammo, brothers, Tim and Steve (Monica) Mendenhall, nieces, Danielle and Alayna Mendenhall, nephew, Peyton Mendenhall; his friend and gentle caregiver, Charlotte Simmons; and special fur buddy, Mason.

A memorial service celebrating Dan’s life will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 22, 2025, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  The family will receive condolences prior to the service, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.  Pastor Roger Sibert will officiate, and military honors will close the service.
