Dale Wilson Obituary

Dale Wilson, 90, of Canton, formerly of Minerva, a much-loved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, soldier, workmate, and friend, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, November 28, 2025, following a period of declining health. Born in Canton, February 25, 1935, a son to the late Evert and Twila Wilson, Dale grew up on the family’s dairy farm. He loved farming but in his late teens he had an urge to try something new. With an interest in building, working with his hands, and no stranger to hard work, he enrolled in several technical classes to learn the finer points of carpentry and construction. He challenged himself even further and taught himself how to select and mill fine woods. At age 22, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving honorably and with distinction, earning the rank of Specialist 4th Class and his Parachutist Badge with C Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Division.

Following his time in the service, Dale returned to the area to marry and raise his family. He kept busy with the farm while starting his own business, where he worked closely with his son Texas Wilson. He retired after 38 years as a skilled carpenter, craftsman and builder.

In his leisure time, Dale enjoyed traveling extensively, and boating with his son Texas.  He had a fondness for “old style” country music, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His memberships included the Canton American Legion Post 44, where he enjoyed the company of his fellow veterans.

Predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Bonnie (Whan) Wilson, his second wife, Anna Marie (Keller) Wilson, daughters; Twila Belle Wilson and Lucinda Joyce Cress, son; Alfred Paul Simones, sisters; Carol, Nancy, and Marjorie, and brothers; Dick, Bob and Dave; Dale is survived by his son, Texas Dale Wilson, of Canton, and daughters, Loretta (Kenny) Wright, of Minerva, and Marjorie Wilson, also of Canton. A large extended family includes Dale’s grandchildren, Alyssa Wilson, Richard and Christopher Wright; two great-grandchildren, his sisters, Emily and Susie, and brother, Jim; former brother-in-law and good friend, Roger McDaniel; and Anna Marie’s children, Art, Alex and Andrea.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Pastor Jack Pancher of Faith Family Church will officiate. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the services, from 2:00-3:00 Thursday afternoon. Military honors will close the service. Honoring Dale’s wishes, cremation will follow, and a private burial will be conducted at a later date.

We’d love to see you in person but if you’re unable to join us, your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Dale’s on-line guestbook.
