Bruce Moyer Obituary

Bruce M. Moyer, 75, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, Tuesday afternoon, November 23, 2021.  Born in Massillon, October 16, 1946, a son to Raymond W. and Geraldine B. “Gerry” (Englehardt) Moyer, Bruce graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1964.  He completed undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, earning his degree in horticulture in 1969.  While attending OSU he was a team manager for the Buckeye football team under then Coach Woody Hayes.  A gifted nurseryman and landscape architect, Bruce always enjoyed gardening.  In 1978 he began beautifying the neighborhoods of Stark County and beyond – one yard at a time, when he started Moyer’s Nursery & Landscaping out of the family home.

A devoted husband and loving and supportive dad and grandpa, Bruce placed his family at the center of his life.  He especially enjoyed watching and encouraging his grandchildren in all of their athletic pursuits.  He was their biggest fan.  They were and remain his pride and joy!  In his leisure time Bruce also enjoyed golfing and in his younger years, together with his dad and brothers, bowled and played softball.

Predeceased by his dad; Bruce is survived by his wife, Cynthia L. “Cindy” (Janata) Moyer, of the home; their children, Marc J. Moyer, and Erin R. (Rick) McMerrell, all of Massillon, and Lara E. (Sean) Wade, of Fairlawn; grandchildren, Molly McMerrell (and Zach McCormick), Katie and Maxwell McMerrell, and Ava, Mia and Gage Wade; his mother, Mrs. Gerry Moyer; and brothers, Tim (Pat) Moyer and Kurt Moyer, all also of Massillon.  A niece and nephew and a host of treasured friends and associates also survive.

Bruce attended Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon.  The family will join Pastor Karen McEwen of Grace UCC in a private celebration of Bruce’s life followed by entombment in the mausoleum chapel at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  They have also suggested memorial contributions made to advance the mission and ministry of Grace UCC in Massillon.
