Barbara Kathryn (Hauenstein) Crofut

Barbara K. Crofut, 92, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, late Monday evening, April 10, 2023.  Born in Massillon, February 26, 1931 – just on the other side of the depression – to the late Beulah Hauenstein, and raised by her aunt, Jessie Hauenstein, Barbara graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1949.  Following graduation, she spent the next eight years working as a teller and bookkeeper at the former State Bank in Massillon.  She left the bank when her son, Steven, was born, and in addition to being a devoted wife, became a full-time mom and a dedicated homemaker.  She had no brothers or sisters and so cherished the friendship of her school classmates and her extended family in the faith community of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, who became life-long friends.  Barbara and her husband, Bob, celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2021.  During their life together they enjoyed their home, various cars, and several cats – most recently, Skittles, Abby, and Jazmine.  She had a good eye for decorating, clothing, and landscaping around her home with flowers.

Predeceased by her mother; and her husband, Robert Jay Crofut; Barbara is survived by her son, Steven R. Crofut (and Bill Dewalt) of Atlanta; and a host of dear friends.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Rev. Mark Kreemer will officiate, and a private burial will follow.  The family will receive condolences for one hour prior to the service, from 3-4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  The   They have also suggested memorial contributions made to the Humane Society of Stark County, 5100 Peach Street NE, Louisville, Ohio 44641.
