Anna Smith Obituary

Anna Jo Smith, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home, and with her son and daughter-in-law at her side, early Friday evening, January 28, 2022.  A quiet birthday celebration Friday morning preceded her home-going as Sunday, January 30, would have marked her ninety-first birthday.  Born in Swandale, Clay County, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Otha and Edna (Bragg) Truman, Anna graduated from Clay High School.  She married James A. Smith and celebrated 50 years together just prior to his passing in 2001.  The couple began their married life and their family after relocating to Massillon in 1950.  Here they remained for the rest of their lives.  A devoted wife and a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, Anna placed her faith and her family at the center of her life.  She was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Massillon Baptist Temple.  She could get a little cantankerous and disappointed from time to time, but her faith was built on rock and her light and her love would always shine through.  As a hobby, she enjoyed a doll collection she’d put together over several years and while she wasn’t a gardener, she had a special fondness for fresh flowers.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sons, David and Terry; a sister and three brothers; Anna is survived by her daughter, Connie Pierce, of Canton, and her son, Ron (Dianne) Smith, of Massillon, with whom she resided.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Lynn and Dottie, and her brother, Benny Truman.

Rev. Ed Decker, of Massillon Baptist Temple will join with Anna’s family for a private funeral ceremony followed by burial beside her husband, at Oakwood Cemetery in Massillon.  Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon has been entrusted with arrangements.  Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added to our on-line guestbook at www.atkinsonfeucht.com.
