Velma M. Hauner, 88, of Massillon, with her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter at her side, passed away quietly on Sunday evening, October 8, 2017. Born in Dillonvale, Ohio, April 2, 1929, a daughter to the late Albert R. and Emma (Zoeck) Schrickel, Velma was a devoted mother, grandma and great-grandma. She had been a member of the former Wesley United Methodist Church and prior to her retirement in 1994, was employed as a workshop specialist with the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Stark DD), providing necessary assistance to clients living in area group homes.
Predeceased by her parents; three brothers and a sister; Velma is survived by her daughter, Sharon L. McCray; granddaughter Stacy K. Hauner; great-granddaughter, Jade Alexis Whitmer, all of Massillon; and her beloved fur baby, Sophie.
No formal services are planned at this time but a memorial service may be scheduled at a later date. The family extends their most sincere thanks to the nurses and aides on the 2200 unit of Affinity Medical Center and to Crossroads Hospice for the special care and attention Velma received. They have also suggested memorial contributions made to the donor’s charity of choice.
