Sally J. Stevenson, 78, formerly of Massillon, more recently of Wellington, Ohio, passed away peacefully late Saturday afternoon, July 7, 2018. Born in Massillon, February 11, 1940, a daughter to the late Marlin and Betty S. (Martin) Fisher, Sally graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1958. Her first job became her career, working from the age of 16 as a cook at the former Massillon City Hospital until her retirement from Affinity Medical Center 46 years later. A faithful and energetic member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Massillon, Sally was first and foremost a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma as well as an accomplished cook and baker. But she was also a published poet who enjoyed writing in her leisure time. She also loved to walk for exercise and just for fun. A Tiger fan throughout her life, Sally had a special place in her heart for the Massillon Tiger “Swing” Band and always enjoyed hearing them play and watching them perform.
Predeceased by her parents; her brother, Tom, and her twin brother, Bill; Sally is survived by her daughter, Patti (David) Schworm, of Wellington; son, Loren (Dee) Stevenson, of Massillon; grandchildren, Tyler and Destiny Stevenson and Matt and Melissa Smith; and her great-grandson, Patrick Clark. Also surviving is a large extended family that includes Bonnie and Mike Fall and Michelle and Jeremy Cottrell, of Massillon, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2018, at St. Timothy’s Church. Fr. George Baum will officiate and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the services, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the church. They have also suggested memorial contributions made to either the Massillon Tiger “Swing” Band/Massillon Tiger Band Boosters, PO Box 1063, Massillon, Ohio 44648 or St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 226 – 3rd Street SE, Massillon, Ohio 44646.
