Our beloved mother, Rose Marie Orphanides, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Rose was born in Brookline, Massachusetts to the late Carl S. and Elizabeth E. Demeter. The family soon moved to New York City where Rose resided until her marriage in 1949.
Mom began her career working at the New York Stock Exchange. During World War II, she worked on the Manhattan Project for the US War Dept., located in the Empire State Building. Her most fulfilling job was serving as church secretary at Grace United Church of Christ for 21-1/2 years. She was married to the love of her life, Harry G. Orphanides, for 56 years. Rose loved music, travel and serving in her church. Most of all, she loved her family and devoted her life to their well-being. She was always a source of continual love and encouragement.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by her three sisters. She is survived by her three sons, George (Donna), Rich (Pat), and Carl (Debbie) and daughter, Elizabeth (David) Moore. Also surviving are six grandchildren, seven great-grandsons, godson Paulie and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Faith Community Fellowship. Rose’s son, Rev. Carl H. Orphanides, will officiate and burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery. The family will receive condolences Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon and on Thursday morning for one hour prior to the services, from 10-11:00 in the church.
The family would like to thank special caregiver Lori for her loyal, dedicated and loving care and the many friends who were a comfort and blessing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Faith Community Fellowship, 1303 – 9th Street SW, Massillon, Ohio 44647.
