Rebecca L. Black, 72, of Canton, slipped gently into the arms of her Lord and Savior late Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018. Born September 9, 1945, in Roswell, New Mexico, a daughter to the late Robert and Delores (Legg) Lanier, Becky graduated from Massillon Washington High School with the Class of 1963. A gifted artist and creative writer with a brilliant imagination and boundless energy, she found a special joy in writing and telling children’s stories and adding unique illustrations to complete the imagery. As a devoted wife and helpmate, she kept the books and schedules for the business she shared with her husband, Designer Graphics Architectural Signage in Canton. As a loving mom and grandma, she created a home that was safe and full of laughter for the entire family. She cherished her daughters and granddaughters and looked forward to every minute they could spend together. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, shopping for antiques and spending time in her gazebo and butterfly garden. Becky attended Canton Baptist Temple and placed her faith at the center of her life. Whatever came her way, she asked only for the grace to use it for good.
Becky is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lanny R. Black; her daughters, Tami (Adam) Finsel, of Englewood, Florida and Jennifer Black, of Canton; granddaughters, Megan and Amanda Finsel and Katelyn Strong; and her brothers, Randall Lanier, of Marietta, Georgia and David Lanier, of Massillon.
Family and friends will gather in celebration of Becky’s life on Tuesday evening, July 17, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Pastor Delaney Young will officiate. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service on Tuesday evening, from 5-6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. They have also suggested memorial contributions to advance the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children or Akron Children’s Hospital.
