Myron Netzly Obituary

Myron J. “Jim” Netzly, 89, of Massillon, passed away peacefully but somewhat unexpectedly, early Sunday morning, July 15, 2018.  Born May 21, 1929, on the family farm in Navarre, a son to the late Harry E. and Lillian (Ramsey) Netzly, Jim graduated from the former Navarre High School with the Class of 1947.  He acquired his work ethic by helping with daily chores on the farm from a very early age.  He acquired his work experience through a series of different jobs that took him away from the farm beginning at age 14 - first with Nickles Bakery then into a spot at the former Massillon Aluminum Co., making canteens and mess kits during World War II.  After high school he spent some time with the former Grisom-Russell Co. before returning to Massillon Aluminum.  He enrolled at Canton Actual Business College and earned an accounting certificate before accepting a position with the Enduro Stainless Division of Republic Steel Corp. in Massillon, in the fall of 1948.  In 1962, a position in Republic’s General Office Cost Group led to a move to the corporate headquarters in Cleveland.  Much of his professional training occurred “on the job,” with several hours of evening classes completed at the University of Akron.  Jim retired from Republic in 1984, as the Comptroller and Vice President of Accounting, having invested more than 35 years of dedicated service with the corporation.

A devoted husband and father, Jim was a faithful member of St. James Church at Crossroads.  He was an avid golfer, carding three holes-in-one; and he was keen to bring that well-manicured golf course look to his own home, finding pleasure and taking pride in a meticulously groomed yard and garden.

Predeceased by his parents; his wife, Leona (Patterson) Netzly – who passed away last August; sisters, Evelyn, Mildred and Betty and brother, Dwight; Jim is survived by his daughter, Diane Netzly and his sons, Jim and Garry Netzly, all of Massillon and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Pastor Bill Andrick will officiate and entombment will take place in Rose Hill Memorial Chapel Mausoleum.  The family will receive condolences Wednesday morning, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  They have also suggested memorial contributions made to advance the mission and ministry of St. James Church at Crossroads, PO Box 357, Navarre, Ohio  44662.
