Gus T. Stavrakis, 81, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, early Friday morning, July 27, 2018, following an extended illness. Born in Massillon, September 12, 1936, a son to the late Theodore and Anna (Tinos) Stavrakis, Gus graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1954. He served honorably in the US Army, serving in Korea, before earning his bachelor’s degree from Malone College and his master’s degree from the University of Akron. Gus devoted his thirty year teaching career to the students of Massillon City Schools. He was very active in St. George Greek Orthodox Church as well as AHEPA Canton Chapter 59. Well loved by all, Gus will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia (Chantes) Stavrakis; brother, George and sister-in-law, Anna Stavrakis; Gus is survived by his wife of 36 years, Helen (Demis) Stavrakis; his sister, Stacia (Art) Amentas, John (Linda) Stavrakis, Rev. Fr. Nicholas (Peggy) Stavrakis and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Rev. Fr. Spyridon Kehayes will officiate and burial will follow in Massillon Cemetery. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 Monday morning in the church. The family has also suggested memorial contributions made to advance the mission and ministry of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.
