Elvadeen “Deenie” Cook, formerly of Massillon, passed away peacefully May 9, 2017, in Newberry, Michigan, where she had lived for the past 5 years.  Deenie was born February 28, 1925, in Dover, Ohio the late to Walter E. and Ruth (Eckleberry) Lahmers.  She grew up on the family farm and moved to Massillon in 1943, where she met her husband, William G. The couple was married for 53 years prior to his passing in 2001.  Deenie was always happiest to be with family.  She enjoyed having holiday meals with lots of family around the dining room table and was a tireless worker on church projects.  She had a strong faith in God that she shared by example and action.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband; sister Thelma Singer and brother Don Lahmers; Deenie is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Jim) Snody and Leslie Cook.  She is also survived by her granddaughters, Courtney Snody and Carey (Ryan) Hoekstra and great-granddaughters, Addison and Halie Hoekstra. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  Pastor Julia Wertz will officiate and interment will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  The family will receive friends one half hour before the service, from 9:30-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  They have also suggested memorial contribution in their mother’s name to Hulbert Tahquamenon United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
