Doris Whitmore Obituary

Doris Mae Whitmore, 92, formerly of Navarre, more recently of Wooster, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019.  Born in Massillon, January 11, 1926, a daughter to the late Ralph E. and Ethel Marie (Singer) Longworth, Doris graduated from Warren Harding High School with the Class of 1944.  She was a homemaker and had lived nearly all of her married life in the Village of Navarre where she was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.  A devoted wife and a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma, Doris created a warm and gracious home for her husband and family, full of fun and laughter and happy memories.  One of her favorite pastimes was spoiling her grandchildren.  One of her most precious gifts was holding her newest great-grandson for the first time.

Preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Richard M. and Donald E. Longworth; Doris is survived by her husband, William J. “John” Whitmore, Sr. – with whom she would have celebrated 70 years of married life this coming March; her son, William J. “Bill” (Renee) Whitmore, of Wooster; grandchildren, Branon (Michael) Workman, of Wooster, B.J. (Brittany) Whitmore, of Marshallville; great-grandchildren, Marlie and Mason Workman and Liam Whitmore.  Also surviving are several treasured nieces and nephews whose help and kind support have been and continue to be so sincerely appreciated.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Doris Mae Whitmore will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Navarre.  Pastor Brent Gundlah will officiate and a private burial will follow.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m. in the church.  The family has suggested memorial contributions to advance the missions and ministries of LifeCare Hospice (of Wayne County) or St. Paul UCC of Navarre.
